Indian tourists are being wooed aggressively by various countries after the Covid-19 pandemic. The South Asian nation is Thailand’s fourth-largest source market for tourism in 2023 so far with about 12 lakh (1.2 million) arrivals. Malaysia, China and South Korea are the top three countries.
Indian government data have shown that the number of Indians travelling overseas rose steadily from 1.4 crore (140 million) in 2011 to a peak of 2.7 crore (270 million) in 2019. Two years of pandemic restrictions saw a dip in the numbers before the figures rebounded to 2.1 crore (210 million) last month.
