Karan Bhatia commended PM Narendra Modi’s leadership in promoting digital technology adoption and emphasised the role of the Indian ecosystem in driving global digital presence.

GOOGLE’S GLOBAL head of government affairs and public policy Karan Bhatia has expressed enthusiasm for India as a crucial market and a hub of talent and innovation.
Speaking with PTI, he highlighted India’s rapid internet usage growth, digital-first businesses, and government support for digitalisation.
Bhatia commended prime minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in promoting digital technology adoption and emphasised the role of the Indian ecosystem in driving global digital presence.
Bhatia, who served as the deputy US trade representative, anticipates increased partnerships between the US and India in the digital space. Google is actively contributing to this growth through product development and partnerships with startups, including the $10 billion India Digitization Fund. Bhatia believes the upcoming meeting between Modi and president Joe Biden will signify a commitment to enhance the commercial relationship, particularly in technology and digital domains. He highlighted Google’s focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and its partnership with IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Madras to expand AI capabilities. Collaboration between the US and India in AI can establish both countries as AI superpowers.
Bhatia acknowledged the competitive global environment and India’s efforts to attract investments by prioritizing technology. He outlined areas of improvement in India, including continued investments in digital infrastructure, enhancing digital literacy, government adoption of technology, and creating favorable policy environments for innovation and cross-border partnerships.
