In a horrific incident, a woman in her 20s was killed along with her two-year-old son after an under-construction pillar of the Metro Railways in the southern Indian city of Bengaluru collapsed on their two-wheeler.
Her husband and daughter were seriously injured and were undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.
The incident happened at the peak traffic hours in the eastern part of India’s IT capital on Tuesday (10) morning.
Officials said the family of four were travelling on their two-wheeler when the iron pillar, weighing several tonnes, fell on them.
The victims, Tejasvani, 28, and her son Vihan sustained grievous injuries and were rushed to the hospital by witnesses where they died.
Her husband was identified as Lohith.
The parents were wearing helmets when the accident happened, the police said.
“This morning, a Metro pillar collapsed and hit a bike on which four people were travelling. Tejasvini and her son Vihan were seriously injured and immediately shifted to the Altius hospital. Unfortunately, they died there,” an official said.
A case has been registered and probe is underway, he said.
The incident caused a massive traffic snarl and the road was cleared later.
