Yogi Adityanath, chief minister of the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh and one of the major faces of the country’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), on Friday (7) remarked that India was achieving new heights under the leadership of prime minister Narendra Modi and that the world was looking up to it.
He also used the occasion to take a dig at neighbouring Pakistan, which is grappling with an economic crisis, saying while the Indian government was giving free rations to 80 crore (800 million) people for the last three years, those in Pakistan were struggling for food.

“The government of India is giving free rations to 80 crore people for the last three years, whereas people in Pakistan are struggling for food. Today, the world is looking up to India,” Adityanath said at the inauguration of the Kaushambi Mahotsav event in the state and laying the foundation of various development projects.
Indian home minister Amit Shah, who was on a daylong visit to the state, inaugurated the event and the projects.
Adityanath thanked Shah on the occasion for giving an international platform to the region’s traditional values through ‘Kaushambi Mahotsav’.
“Under the leadership of prime minister Narendra Modi, the youth of the country is getting the inspiration to take part in sporting activities, live a healthy life and contribute to the development of the country,” he said.
“Today, development projects worth more than Rs 612 crore have been inaugurated by the home minister. Kaushambi has very deep historical connections. It is also believed that Lord Ram also spent his one night here,” the chief minister added.
He further said that the state’s development schemes are reaching every village, every poor, farmer and youth without any discrimination.
Adityanath completed the first year of his second term which started in March 2022 after the BJP won the state elections in Uttar Pradesh, considered India’s most important political state since it sends the most number of elected representatives to the parliament.
